In this workshop we want to give an overview of the current situation at the European external borders, with a focus on the Turkish-Greek border region. We want to talk about interventions against this violence - by refugees themselves and by activist initiatives, especially the Watch the Med - Alarm Phones and Mare-Liberum.
In the last two years, the European border regime has become increasingly violent. Almost daily, people are prevented by illegal pushbacks from seeking asylum and safety in Greece - and thus Europe.
We want to analyze the discrimination mechanism of the asylum system in the focus of the Ukrainian case.
We want to talk about interventions against this violence - by people fleeing themselves and by activist initiatives. We will especially introduce you to the work of Watch the Med - Alarm Phone and Mare-Liberum. Together we would like to talk with you about what other ways - besides direct solidarity and scandalization - one could take.
