Anarchist Archive
On September 22, 2022, the David Graeber Institute will officially open in London.
I will talk about how we prepared for this space, accompanying it with independent and non-institutionalized spaces - the Museum of Care and a series of projects devoted to public art and education.
The Institute will mainly be working with David's Archive, and we're planning many experiments here.
At the moment, the archive, which in addition to a huge number of photographs, David's family videos, letters, lecture cycles and unfinished works, consists primarily of 100 handwritten notebooks that David kept throughout his life.
In partnership with the AI department of the Zurich Institute of Technology, we are working on converting handwritten notebooks into text format.
I had never before been involved in the archives and was surprised to discover how conservative these institutions are.
The Zurich Institute of Technology has built an engine that recognizes David's handwriting, but beyond that we have many other ideas about how to work with and publish it that I would be happy to discuss.
Also, I will talk about the forthcoming release of David's new book, "Pirate Enlightenment," - which describes the emergence of the idea of what we now call "the West" as opposed to "the East" and "the New World." It is also a book about the power of storytelling, which shapes our lives and common sense (a keyword for David).
I will read a short text from this book.
