Dinner Circle is a platform that matches Ukrainians and Berliners who would like to invite them for a dinner at their place. The idea was born shortly after the war in Ukraine started. In one month the team of friends, professionals, amateurs, expats, and concerned citizens launched the matching website. Check it out!
In our talk, we will share our journey, how the idea evolved, how we understood our audience, and what support empowered us along the way.
Dinner Circle is a tool that helps the unwillingly displaced to find friends and get informed. Our mission is to create a safe, welcoming and informative environment for the newcomers and to empower locals who want to help. Dinners are not just about food. They are about emotional connection, sharing and joyful moments that can make one feel normal, even if just for one evening.
To create a foundation of trust with the potential users, we are also building a community through a series of events (Meetups), informational support (Guide), and social networks (Instagram page). Our talk will be a collection of stories of friends and strangers who came together to rebuild fragile trust in people: of those who committed to the project, those who offered their space and food, and those affected by the war who overstepped their fear and opened up to us.
We continue working on the project: we plan more partnerships, more events, and expansion to other cities and countries. If you want to contribute, have an idea or feedback, we are happy to talk! Reach out to us at hello@dinnercircle.eu or just find us at the congress, and let's chat!
I am a Mathematician that transferred to Data Science not so long time ago. Originally I am from Russia. I left about 8 years ago to do my PhD in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and later, postdocs in Toronto and Paris. Now I live in Berlin and work in fashion e-commerce. I love cooking, meeting passionate and indifferent people, Georgia, khachapuri, mountains and dogs, especially the stray ones, like the one sleeping under my table, while I'm typing this.
