Sinem Nazlı Demir
I am a crime reporter and researcher specializing in gender-based violence, media representations, and institutional responses to violence against women. I am currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Human Rights at Fulda University of Applied Sciences, where my research focuses on suspicious deaths of women and how such cases are shaped, classified, and often obscured by institutional practices.
My work is grounded in investigative journalism. I have conducted in-depth interviews with survivors of violence, families of murdered women, and forensic and legal experts, closely following court cases and documenting how narratives around violence are constructed in both media and legal processes.
I am the author of I Know My Killer, a book that brings together the life stories of women affected by femicide in Turkey. Through this work, I aim to challenge the normalization of violence and make visible the structural dimensions behind these cases.
I actively deliver workshops and public lectures on women’s rights and media language. I have led seminars in universities, municipalities, and civil society organizations across Europe, focusing on how media narratives shape public perception of violence against women.
I am also working as a press coordinator for Feminizidmap in Germany, where I contribute to monitoring femicide cases, communicating with institutions, and producing data-driven reports.

Beitrag
This interactive workshop explores how media language normalizes violence against women. Using real headlines and case examples from Turkey and Germany, participants will identify patterns such as victim-blaming and perpetrator invisibility. Through collaborative rewriting exercises, we will develop feminist alternatives that shift narratives, center accountability, and challenge dominant discourses.
